Steve Koskella has always felt a part of nature. Growing up on a ranch in southern Idaho, his father took him into the vast Idaho Primitive area at an early age. Steve remembers riding horses into mountain and lakes vistas that few had ever laid eyes on. His heroes were uncles that worked homestead mountain ranches and wore Forest Service uniforms that guarded and protected incredible natural realms. Steve tried to follow the Koskella tradition going to the College of Forestry at the University of Idaho joining the US Forest Service only to find himself putting wild Areas under “Management” that denigrated the intricacy of nature into the commerce of producing lumber products. Going his own way he resigned his commission and became a commercial fisherman in Alaskan waters.
