A Watershed Moment
When Stacey Detwiler joined the Rogue Riverkeeper team 4+ years ago, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) had just issued a denial for the Jordan Cove LNG project and we were poised to see new limits on in-stream mining in essential salmon habitat in the Rogue. Stacey jumped in feet first and helped Rogue Riverkeeper achieve big victories in both of these campaigns and many more.
Today, Stacey is moving on to her next endeavor on the east coast, in Maine. And though we are sadly saying our goodbyes, Stacey has positioned Rogue Riverkeeper on solid ground having secured significant victories for the Rogue during her tenure. Stacey’s incredible contributions for the Rogue include but are surely not limited to….
Helping get legislation passed in 2017 to prohibit suction dredge mining in 24,000 miles of essential salmon habitat in rivers and streams across the state;
Securing a 401 Clean Water Act denial in May of 2019 for the Jordan Cove LNG project and writing 200 pages of comments on how the project would impact waterways in southern Oregon;
And ushering in an historic agreement with conservation partners and the timber industry to come up with a common sense approach to outdated forestry practices on private forest lands in Oregon to better protect our drinking watersheds.
Stacey’s contributions to protecting the Rogue are a reason to celebrate and we are extremely grateful for her dedication, hard work and effectiveness! She has done so much for clean water and healthy communities in the Rogue Basin and throughout Oregon. We’re sad to see her go but are excited for her as she starts a new chapter!
Onward!
As we look toward 2021, we know there will be more challenges, change, and adversity. But with you by our side, we can continue the hard but crucial work to protect clean water and the communities that depend on it in the Rogue.
