Rogue Riverkeeper is a non-profit advocacy organization that works to protect and restore water quality and fish populations in the Rogue River Basin and adjacent coastal watersheds through enforcement, advocacy, field work and community action. We are currently hiring for a part time Volunteer Coordinator to join our staff based in Ashland, Oregon.

Job Purpose: The Volunteer Coordinator works with the Rogue Riverkeeper Program Director and other staff to harness volunteer energy that supports our work for a clean and healthy Rogue River. Emphasis will be on expanding our existing water quality-monitoring program, as well as developing new volunteer opportunities, community outreach, recruitment, training and retention of volunteers.


Duties and Objectives:

  • Work with Program Director to develop an expanded volunteer water quality monitoring program
  • Work with Rogue Riverkeeper staff to identify other program needs and create volunteer opportunities in support of program goals
  • Identify, create and coordinate outreach activities
  • Recruit, train and manage volunteers
  • Develop a volunteer tracking database, including interested individuals, active volunteers, and hours contributed by project


Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Experience recruiting, training and managing volunteers
  • Water quality monitoring and sampling plan development experience a plus
  • Understanding of aquatic issues (particular emphasis in Rogue Basin a plus) 
  • Good with people, positive attitude and the ability to work with diverse interests on common goal of clean water
  • Commitment to, and demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team while also able to work independently 
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage
  • Commitment to the mission and values and Rogue Riverkeeper


Pay and Location:

The position will be hourly for 16 hours per week at $15 an hour and based out of Rogue Riverkeeper’s Ashland office. Access to your own transportation will be needed for some travel throughout the watershed, and will also require occasional evening and weekend work.
