Stand up for Southern Oregon Streams!

Show your support for improving protections for streams that support salmon and steelhead here in the Siskiyou region. Called the “Siskiyou Exemption,” streams in southern Oregon are currently left out of a proposal to increase the size of buffers around streams that support salmon and steelhead on private forestland.

Called the “Siskiyou Exemption,” streams in southern Oregon are currently left out of a proposal to increase the size of buffers around streams that support salmon and steelhead on private forestland.

The science is clear that removing trees near streams results in warmer stream temperatures. In our region, many streams across the Rogue Basin are already too warm, threatening the health of salmon and other native fish. In the Rogue watershed alone, there are 317 miles of small streams that support salmon and steelhead that would receive increased buffer protections, but are currently excluded under the proposed regulation

Add your voice to ask Oregon State Forester Peter Daugherty to move quickly to finalize a monitoring strategy to update stream buffer standards in the Siskiyou region. Ask the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) not to leave southern Oregon streams behind!
